Safe from relegation, Freiburg will look to end the season on a high and turnaround an eight-game Bundesliga winless streak (D3, L5). The ‘Breisgau-Brasilianer’ (FRE) have failed to score in just three home league games this season, and have scored in 13 consecutive H2Hs with Nuremberg.
Yet although winless in three home matches, manager Christian Streich has lost just two of his closing home games since 2011/12 as Freiburg boss (W4, D1, L2) and has only seen one defeat in eight career meetings with the visitors (W5, D2, L1).
Nuremberg are without a Bundesliga away win this season (D3, L13), but did claim a point at fellow-relegated club Stuttgart two awaydays ago to halt a nine-game losing streak on the road (in all competitions). Having suffered a brace of 2-0 away losses, Boris Schommers has just one win so far as interim-manager (W1, D3, L7).
It may be a long day for Schommers as Nuremberg are winless in six games, have scored first in just 12.5% of their Bundesliga away matches, and were battered 4-0 at home by Mönchengladbach last time out. With just four away league goals this calendar year, Nuremberg are also without a single away clean sheet this season and have scored an average of just 0.56 goals per awayday.
Players to watch: Vincenzo Grifo (FRE) has netted two goals in his last three matches; he has three assists and one career goal against Nuremberg.
Goalkeeper Christian Mathenia has it all to do here for the away side, while Hanno Behrens scored Nuremberg’s last away goal by a player that isn’t currently injured.
Stat attack: Since 1979/80 the H2H record is all-square at 12 wins each (D5).
At the Schwarzwald-Stadion this season, 43.75% of league games have ended with over 3.5 goals.
Nuremberg have trailed at the break in 68.75% of their Bundesliga awaydays.
