After Sheffield United opened their campaign last weekend with a last-gasp away draw at Bournemouth, Premier League (PL) football now returns to Bramall Lane for the first time since 2007. The ‘Blades’ are no strangers to scoring late, as they netted 15 goals after the 75th minute during their promotion-winning campaign last season.
The hosts can start strongly too, and possessed the best first-half home record of all Championship teams last season and were the only side not to have been trailing at the interval (HT: W9, D14). They also went on to win 15 of the 20 home encounters in which they opened the scoring.
Crystal Palace will approach this match with confidence, if their league record on the road last term is anything to go by. Only the top-four and Manchester United earned more points away from home, and Roy Hodgson’s men failed to score in just three of 19 road trips.
The visitors often played open football when on the road, as seen by the fact that only Arsenal and Leicester’s PL away contests witnessed both teams scoring more often than Palace’s away games. History could be against them on Saturday though, as they’ve lost their first away game in nine of the previous 11 seasons. However, they did defeat champions Manchester City, and Arsenal away last season, winning 3-2 in each game.
Players to watchBilly Sharp (SFU) scored 23 league goals last term, 13 of which were scored from inside the penalty area.
Midfielder Luka Milivojević has netted a penalty in four of Palace’s last seven PL away victories.
Stat attack: This is the first H2H meeting since 2011, with Sheffield winning the last two encounters held at Bramall Lane.
Four of Sheffield’s last six home league fixtures saw them win 2-0.
Eight of Palace’s 14 league victories last season came with a clean sheet.
