FC Cologne welcome Borussia Dortmund, a team they have beaten at home in the Bundesliga just five times across the last 21 H2Hs held here (W5, D5, L11). However, two of those victories have come in the last four (W2, D1, L1).
Across their last eight seasons in the Bundesliga, the newly-promoted hosts have failed to win seven of their opening home games (W1, D3, L4). That’s despite Cologne leading 1-0 at half-time in four of those fixtures, before going on to drop seven points (W1, D2, L1).
Furthermore, Cologne are winless in their last eight Bundesliga games (stretching back into the 2017/18 season), losing the last four (D2, L6). In five of those fixtures they conceded the opener during the first 30 minutes, including their 2-1 loss last weekend.
Dortmund have lost only one of their last seven opening away league games of a new campaign (W4, D2, L1), conceding just one first-half goal across this period, whilst leading ‘to nil’ at half-time in three.
The visitors conceded a first-minute opener last weekend before going on to win 5-1, however comebacks are nothing new to Dortmund. They were involved in five games last term where they won after conceding first – a league-high.
Players to watch: Simon Terodde was the second-tier’s top scorer last season and netted Cologne’s last goal that campaign, as well as their first in their Bundesliga opener last week.
Paco Alcácer (BVB) scored a double last time out, netting a goal in the first 15 minutes of each half.
Stat attack: Across all venues, Cologne and Dortmund have produced ten goalless draws – more than any other fixture in Bundesliga history.
Dortmund scored a first-half opener, and didn’t concede before half-time, in each of their last three Bundesliga away games.
Dortmund have scored four of their five Bundesliga goals so far in the first 15 minutes of each half.
