Match Preview

Following back-to-back victories, Austria go in search of their third consecutive competitive (non-friendly) win for the first time since 2015. They will most certainly expect to achieve that after losing just two of their previous 15 home internationals (W9, D4, L2) and having beaten Latvia in all four historical H2Hs here.
Austria will take encouragement from their Euro 2016 qualification campaign, during which they topped their group and were only one of four nations to do so unbeaten. Interestingly, 11 of their last 15 international matches have failed to see both teams score, seven of which were Austrian clean sheets.
It’s set to be another tough qualification for Latvia following four straight losses in Group G, which have seen them ship 13 goals while scoring once! They ultimately aren’t used to winning, and haven’t managed any Euro qualification (ECQ) win since Oct 2011 (D5, L10 since).
Indeed, Latvia have won just two of their last 29 international matches overall (D7, L20) and last won on their travels back in Sept 2016! That’s perhaps not such a great surprise, considering Latvia’s ranking of 134 is only 14 spots higher than their lowest-ever position of 148.
Players to watch: Marko Arnautović has four goals in Austria’s last three matches, with three arriving in the second half.
Valērijs Šabala was Latvia’s top scorer with three goals in each of their last World Cup and ECQ campaigns.
Stat attack: There has been under 2.5 goals in seven of Austria’s previous ten international games.
Latvia have had a player sent-off in two of their last five internationals.
Latvia have scored just seven goals in their last 16 fixtures combined.
