World champions France come into this game as Group H leaders, after victories in four of their five UEFA European Championship qualifying (ECQ) games so far, winning all by at least a three-goal margin. In fact, ‘Les Bleus’ have lost just two of their last 20 competitive games (W15, D3, L2), with both losses coming on the road.
In addition, the 2016 Euro finalists have won with a clean sheet in each of the three previous ECQ H2Hs, scoring at least twice in two of those meetings. If they get another victory here it will likely be accompanied by a clean sheet, as France have kept one in all but three of their last 20 ECQ home victories.
Ahead of kick-off, rock-bottom Andorra are yet to win a single ECQ game (D0, L55). Aside from a shock 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Hungary in 2017 (their last competitive win), and four draws in the UEFA Nations League, the visitors’ competitive record since their Hungary heroics sees them beaten ‘to nil’ on 11 occasions.
Despite lamenting an all-time career record of: W3, D9, L59, Andorra head coach ‘Koldo’ continues to be lauded for getting the Andorrans their first competitive win since 2004. However, it is worth noting that each of Andorra’s last 23 competitive losses have seen them fail to score.
Players to watch: French winger Kingsley Coman has scored three goals in his last two games for club and country. Two of those were scored in the 60th-70th minute period.
Meanwhile, defender Cristian Martínez scored Andorra’s last away competitive goal back in 2010.
Stat attack: Four of France’s five ECQ fixtures have produced over 1.5 goals before half-time.
Andorra’s all-time ratio of ECQ goals scored/conceded stands at 11:160.
The visitors have conceded first, and done so in the opening half hour, in four of their five ECQ fixtures.
