Olympiakos return to the Champions League (CL) group stage for the first time since 2017/18, having negotiated their way through qualification (W5, D1), overcoming solid yardsticks in Plzeň, Basaksehir and Krasnodar, and enjoying a 13-1 aggregate scoreline in the process.
Confidence should be no issue for the Greek outfit considering they won 5-0 at home to Volos on Saturday, which continued their 100% start to the Greek Super League season, winning all three games so far ‘to nil’. They’ve actually lost just two of their previous 28 league fixtures, winning their last 13 in succession, keeping clean sheets in eight of those.
Tottenham commence their latest CL quest having reached the final last term, before finding Liverpool too hot to handle in Madrid. That was their first European final since 1984, but this is their fourth straight season in the UCL, and tenth consecutive campaign in European competition.
‘Spurs’ will also be on a high after defeating London rivals Crystal Palace 4-0 at the weekend, their fourth match from five in the Premier League this season that’s featured at least four total goals. Their away form will be a worry though considering they’ve won just two of their last 13 away in all competitions, albeit those two were versus Borussia Dortmund and Ajax in last season’s run to the CL Final.
Players to watchYoussef El-Arabi has four goals in his last four Olympiakos appearances, including a brace in their last CL match. Meanwhile Harry Kane has five goals, including a hat-trick, across Tottenham’s last four CL away wins.
Stat attack: Olympiakos are unbeaten at home in the league since September, 2018.
Spurs won six CL games last season, four with clean sheets, whilst the other two were won despite conceding the first goal.
Olympiakos have scored 20 goals this season in all competitions, 15 coming in the second half.
