Though Basel lost out on a Champions League (CL) place, they enter the Europa League (EL) group stage on a high after a run of six consecutive domestic victories, scoring at least twice in each (3.0 scored per match average). However, three of Basel’s four competitive defeats this season came in UEFA competition, with 2.5 goals conceded on average across those defeats.
This will be Basel’s 13th encounter vs Russian opposition (CL & EL: W6, D2, L4) and they are yet to draw at home to such opposition (W4, L2). Interestingly, three of those four home victories ended 2-0 to Basel, whilst three also saw a goalless first half.
Visiting coach Murad Mosaev is unbeaten in seven of his ten EL matches (W4, D3, L3), though his Krasnodar side are winless in each of their last five (D3, L2) with just one of those victories coming on foreign soil (W1, D1, L3).
This will be Krasnodar’s first competitive encounter vs Swiss opposition, though they have qualified from each of the last three EL group stages and five of their six group games last season were settled by a one-goal margin (W4, L2).
Players to watch: Having scored almost a third of Basel’s league goals (31.25% – five goals), Kemal Ademi has scored six times in his last five appearances in all competitions.
Krasnodar youngster Magomed-Shapi Suleymanov has scored two of their three European away goals this season, all four of his goals in all competitions came before half-time.
Stat attack: Each of Basel’s 12 competitive games this season has produced over 2.5 goals (3.83 per match average).
Basel are unbeaten in seven of their nine EL home group games (W5, D2, L2).
Krasnodar’s overall away record in the EL stands at: W4, D2, L6.
Krasnodar have won just one away group game in each of the last four EL campaigns.
