A last-gasp goal condemned Lokomotiv Moscow to defeat at the hands of Juventus in their last Champions League (CL) outing, and was their third 2-1 scoreline (W1, L2) from their four tournament games so far. Notably, three of the Russians last four competitive home fixtures have now featured a goal in first or second-half injury time (W1, D1, L2).
Lokomotiv’s two CL home games have now both seen the hosts draw at half-time but then lose the second half ‘to nil’. In fact Lokomotiv haven’t seen a draw in their last 11 CL fixtures (W2, L9), and have seen just one goalless draw at home in this competition since the turn of the century (W9, D3, L12).
Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-1 win over Atlético Madrid kept them in the running for progression, but was also their third game this CL group stage that finished with precisely three match goals. Curiously, four of their last five competitive defeats have now involved three match goals – including a 2-1 defeat to Lokomotiv in the previous H2H.
On the road, the Germans haven’t seen a draw since February (W8, L6 – in all competitions), with 78.57% of the games following producing over 2.5 goals, and 57.14% featuring over 3.5. However when Leverkusen win on the road they usually do so convincingly, with their last six competitive away victories being achieved with at least a -1 handicap.
Players to watchAleksey Miranchuk netted in his previous two CL appearances – his last four competitive goals for Lokomotiv came before half-time.
Kevin Volland was Leverkusen’s last goalscorer in the previous three games he found the net.
Stat attack: Both teams have scored in the first half in Lokomotiv’s last three competitive games.
Each of Leverkusen’s last ten competitive away games saw a goal after the 75th minute.
Lokomotiv have scored by the 30th minute in three of their four CL games.
