Interim Arsenal boss Freddie Ljungberg is tasked with ending the Gunners’ eight-game winless competitive run (D6, L2). Ljungberg will be hopeful that his attack can continue their good form, having netted in eight of their previous nine matches. Additionally, they scored 2+ goals in five of those fixtures in that run.
As ever though, it is the Gunners’ defence that will be a potential weakness. Across that same run of fixtures, Arsenal failed to keep a single clean sheet, and conceded two or more goals in seven of the matches. Furthermore, six of their previous seven games have seen them concede in the final 30 minutes of the match.
Brighton travel looking to end their own winless run in the Premier League (PL). The Seagulls’ biggest problem has been conceding the game’s first goal, and subsequently failing to hit back with a response before allowing their opponents to grab a second. That has been the case in each of their previous three losses.
The above run has contributed to them conceding two goals in five of their previous six PL matches. That said, the ‘Seagulls’ can take comfort in the fact that they have lost just one of their previous four H2H PL meetings with Arsenal (W1, D2, L1). Despite this, none of the four saw them keep a clean sheet.
Players to watchPierre-Emerick Aubameyang has three goals in his previous two competitive matches, and scored vs Brighton in the last H2H meeting.
Brighton defender Lewis Dunk has scored at the grounds of other ‘top-six’ (2017-19) clubs – namely, Anfield and Old Trafford – in his last two PL appearances.
Stat attack: Arsenal have scored 46.15% of their home PL goals in the opening 30 minutes.
Brighton have scored 31.25% of their PL goals after the 75th minute.
Three of the four H2H PL meetings have had under 2.5 goals.
