Winless against local rivals Chelsea in 18 H2H matches (D8, L10), Fulham – however improbable – must stop their run of straight defeats (currently four) within, arguably, the next three games to stand any chance of survival, and a place in the 2019/20 Premier League (PL).
Not much better at home, Fulham have kept a clean sheet here on just a single occasion this PL season, while losing at HT/FT (at all venues) on a league-high 15 occasions this season. Furthermore, Fulham have won just one of 23 matches they’ve entered as outsiders, while also losing every league game this season against a top-six club.
Chelsea entered the weekend trailing a top-four berth by three points, and have been inconsistent in the league recently (W3, L3). In five of those six matches the winner has won to nil, though when playing away, they’ve failed to score, and lost in four of their last five competitive matches.
Nonetheless, a midweek win against rivals Tottenham has silenced Chelsea’s biggest critics. They have, at least, been ruthless against the teams that entered this weekend in the relegation zone, winning all four matches in that category with a two-goal margin or more.
Players to watch: Aleksandar Mitrović has ten PL goals for Fulham this season – eight of those have come at home. Meanwhile, Gonzalo Higuaín has scored twice across four PL matches for Chelsea.
Stat attack: Fulham have now conceded two goals or more in eight straight PL matches.
Chelsea’s away matches in the league have featured three goals or more three quarters of the time (76.92%).
Of the ten home league goals so far conceded by Fulham to current top-six teams, seven have arrived in the second half – five in the final half-hour.
