Considering each of Toulouse’s last six Ligue 1 (L1) home games have produced under 2.5 goals, this match may be off a neutral’s radar. However they are facing a Lille side that only last week handed PSG their largest league defeat in ten years, and a team that’s been involved in six consecutive H2Hs at this venue that involved both teams scoring.
Sitting in 15th-place after losing just one of their last seven L1 home games (W2, D4, L1), Toulouse look safe for another year despite scoring an average of just one goal per top-flight home match this term. Considering that fact, it may come as no surprise that all four of Toulouse’s home league wins this season arrived by a one-goal margin, as did four of their five home defeats.
Lille spoiled the Parisian party last weekend, netting five goals in a single league game for the first time since April 2013. That result also made them the only L1 side this season that are yet to concede more than two goals in a game.
Although on an impressive nine-game unbeaten top-flight away run (W7, D2), it certainly hasn’t been all one-way traffic for the visitors, with both teams scoring in six of those fixtures.
Players to watch: Toulouse top scorer Max-Alain Gradel has ten league goals so far, but is currently riding a six-game goal drought in L1.
Nicolas Pépé has scored in two of Lille’s last three L1 away games. Twelve of his 19 league goals this term came in the second half.
Stat attack: Drama ahead? There’s been three red cards shown across Toulouse’s last four L1 home matches.
There’s also been three penalties and two red cards across Lille’s last three L1 away games.
The match opener was scored within the opening 20 minutes in seven of the last ten H2Hs.
