Burnley will be looking to end their season on a high and avoid a third straight Premier League (PL) loss on the final day of the season. Both of their two previous closing day defeats were by the same 2-1 scoreline – notably they took the lead in each.
The ‘Clarets’ narrow defeat in their last home league game to Manchester City (1-0) ended a run of 12 consecutive league matches in which they scored at least one goal at Turf Moor. It also ended a run of nine home matches seeing two or more match goals.
Victory away at Valencia (4-2) in midweek made it three competitive games undefeated for Arsenal (W2, D1). They travel to Burnley knowing they haven’t lost on the final day of a PL season since 2005, winning each of the last seven in a row. Impressively, there have been 13 hat-tricks scored on the closing day of a PL season, with 30.77% of these being netted by Arsenal players.
The ‘Gunners’ have won each of their previous three PL away matches at Turf Moor, all by the same 1-0 scoreline, and they netted a 90th minute winner in each of their previous two visits.
Players to watch: Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored four goals in his two PL games against Burnley – however neither came at Turf Moor.
Despite no goal for Burnley so far, striker Peter Crouch has scored on the final day of six separate PL seasons before – including each of the last two.
Stat attack: Five of Burnley’s previous six PL goals conceded have came in the opening 20 minutes.
Arsenal have only kept one clean sheet away from home in the PL this season – their worst return since 1968.
Arsenal have conceded exactly three goals in six PL matches – three of those occasions came in their previous four matches.
