Aston Villa sit 18th after six rounds of matches with an overall record of: W1, D1, L4, and a goal difference of -3, mirroring both their points return and goal difference at this stage when they were relegated in 2015/16.
A level home record (W1, D1, L1) has seen them keep two clean sheets and actually avoid conceding from the 13th minute onwards. But games at Villa Park have hardly been a thrill-a-minute, with the 1.67 goals per game average the joint-third lowest in the Premier League (PL).
Burnley are unbeaten in their last two PL matches as part of a perfectly balanced start (W2, D2, L2), representing their second-best points return at this stage of the season since returning to the PL in 2016/17. They are, however, without an away league win in five PL matches overall (three this season).
Sean Dyche’s side have only failed to score once this season (against PL leaders Liverpool) but have found the net in each of their away PL matches, scoring once on each occasion. Despite taking the lead away from home just once this season, Burnley are yet to trail at the break.
Players to watch: Villa’s John McGinn has scored three times this campaign for club and country, with each strike being the first of the game and before the 21st minute.
Four of the last five PL games that Chris Wood has scored in have seen Burnley win with a -1 handicap. Furthermore, Burnley haven’t lost in the last nine competitive games he’s scored in.
Stat attack: This will be just the fifth league H2H since 1976. Three of the four (75%) H2Hs in the PL era saw both teams score.
Villa have the fourth-best overall first-half record in the PL, and have led at half-time in 50% of their matches.
Burnley’s last six PL away wins dating back to March 2018, have seen both sides score.
