Match Preview

Blackburn Rovers entertain local rivals Wigan Athletic in high spirits on a count of their six-match unbeaten streak (W5, D1), their longest run without losing a Championship game since Aug 2018. Often quick out of the blocks, Rovers have scored four of their last six league goals inside the first 14 minutes!
Victors in four straight league games at home, all by a one-goal margin, Rovers are unbeaten in six in front of their own fans (D2). Three of the four goalscoring Championship home games that they failed to win saw them concede first in the opening period, while all but one of their six wins was accompanied with them drawing first blood.
Wigan are the opposite end of the form guide as it’s now ten league games without success for Paul Cook’s men (D4, L6). Many of the ‘Latics’ problems occur late in matches as they’ve now conceded 12 goals, a league high approaching this round, from the 76th-minute till full-time, including in each of their past six defeats.
Since returning to the Championship, Wigan’s away record is nothing short of terrible. Across those 34 matches, they’ve won only two, lost 24 and failed to score in 14. In addition, they’ve conceded over 1.5 goals in each of their past four on the road, but did at least score in reply on each occasion.
Players to watch: Fresh from serving a one-match ban, Blackburn playmaker Bradley Dack returns looking to add to his nine league goals, five of which came in home wins.
Gavin Massey scored a brace the last time Wigan won away in April, but he has failed to score a single goal since.
Stat attack: The last three H2H meetings featured over 2.5 goals.
Only once this season have Blackburn been losing a home league game at half-time.
Going into this weekend, only Barnsley have conceded more second-half Championship away goals than Wigan this season.
