Match Preview

  • Watford’s 3-1 home win over Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday was the first time since defeating Premier League champions Liverpool in February they’ve scored 3+ goals in a game. It was also their first Championship match of 2020/21 to witness over 2.5 goals, but they have conceded five of their six goals this season in all competitions before half-time.
  • The ‘Hornets’ have made Vicarage Road a fortress, and boast one of two 100% home records in the league. Watford led at half-time in all three wins, and head coach Vladimir Ivić last lost a home fixture in August 2019 when managing previous club Maccabi Tel Aviv.
  • Bournemouth are one of just two Championship teams yet to taste defeat in 2020/21 (W3, D3), presenting them with their longest unbeaten run in any competition since October, 2018. As a club, they haven’t lost any of their past 19 matches at this level (W12, D7), and they recorded 3+ goals in 66.67% (eight) of those wins.
  • Goals could materialise on the basis of nine of Bournemouth’s last 11 on the road in all competitions seeing both teams score. They are one of only eight Championship clubs yet to score an away goal after 60 minutes, but are one of the six clubs in the league to have scored 3+ away goals in the opening 45 minutes.
  • Players to watch: Watford striker João Pedro has scored in back-to-back games, both in either the first or final 15 minutes, and all his three goals for the club have come in victories.
  • In the opposition frontline, Bournemouth frontman Dominic Solanke has recorded his previous three goals close to HT (35’, 38’, 45’).
  • Hot stat: Watford are winless in the previous six H2H home meetings (D5, L1), conceding in each half in three of the last four games in that barren run.
