• It looked like Schalke would finally register their first Bundesliga victory of the season as they held a 2-1 lead going into stoppage time at the weekend, before they conceded an equaliser in the dying minutes. That 2-2 draw extends their winless Bundesliga run to 27 games (D10, L17), just four behind the all-time record set by Tasmania Berlin back in 1965/66 (31 games).
• Since Schalke’s last league victory – a 2-0 home win – they haven’t secured a clean sheet in any of the 12 home games following (D5, L7). Notably, all draws ended 1-1 and four saw the hosts squander a 1-0 lead. One positive for Schalke is that manager Manuel Baum is unbeaten in three home H2Hs with Christian Streich’s Freiburg (W1, D2) – each game saw both teams score.
• Freiburg ended their nine-game winless run with a 2-0 victory last time out (W1, D5, L4), and whilst they are ten points worse off than at this stage last term, they head into this clash as favourites. Freiburg have won just once as a favourite this season though (W1, D1, L1), and haven’t entered an away league game as such since a 3-0 defeat at Hannover in 2018/19.

• Players to watch: Benito Raman is the only Schalke player fit to play with more than one Bundesliga goal this season (two). For the away side, Freiburg could threaten from Vincenzo Grifo who has scored in his last three appearances.
