Belarus – Israel Predictions and Preview

  • After starting this UEFA Euro qualification (ECQ) campaign with two straight defeats against Switzerland and then Romania, it’s looking increasingly likely that Belarus will once again fail to secure their first Euro finals appearance in the post-Soviet era. They’ll now welcome Israel looking to avoid a fourth successive defeat for the first time since November 2021.
  • A big issue for Belarus in that losing run has been a vulnerability in letting the game get away from them quickly, as each of the three matches saw them concede a second goal within 15 minutes of conceding the opener. They’ll need to show more mental strength here, with the fact this clash is being played at a neutral location (Budapest) meaning they won’t be getting any added support from a home crowd.
  • Israel are also winless in three matches (D1, L2), with their opening game draw against Kosovo the only thing separating them from joining Belarus at the foot of the Group I table. They might perhaps be lacking the same motivation as their rivals given they are already assured of at least a ECQ play-off spot thanks to their performances in the UEFA Nations League.
  • If they do want to go one better than that, then manager Alon Hazan will be looking at these next two matches against the other sides making up the current bottom three as ideal fixtures to kick-start a run. Yet, with two defeats from their three H2Hs against Belarus since the turn of the century (W1), Israel would be wise to not overlook the task in front of them.
  • Players to watch: Belarus have high hopes for 22-year-old Vladislav Morozov who scored their last goal and boasts four strikes across his last five matches for Dinamo Minsk. Israel counterpart Tai Baribo arrives in good form too after five club goal contributions (G4, A1) across his last five appearances for Wolfsberger – he has also found the net in two of Israel’s last four matches.
  • Hot streak: Belarus’ last game ended 2-1, as did each of the previous four H2H matches with Israel.
