Torino – Sassuolo Predictions and Preview

  • Head coach Ivan Jurić will be hoping goals are like London buses for Torino, after they finally ended their near seven-hour drought against Lecce last weekend. Alessandro Buongiorno’s strike just before half-time was enough to earn a 1-0 triumph, with the manager declaring himself “satisfied” with their performance and admitting the pressure on his side was “loosened” by taking the first-half lead.
  • Despite their final third problems, the victory moved the Bulls onto 12 points after ten games, their highest total at this stage of the season since 2018/19. It also brought to a close a five-match winless streak (D2, L3), but having tasted success in just one of their last dozen SA outings at Stadio Olimpico Grande (D6, L5), Torino supporters may be forgiven for tempering their expectations ahead of the visit of Sassuolo.
  • History suggests the Black and Greens may also come into the clash carrying some trepidation given they have lost on five of their last seven away H2Hs (W1, D1), conceding 17 goals in the process. Alessio Dionisi’s side have also failed to win any of their last four matches in the top flight (D2, L2), a run that leaves them dangling precariously above the relegation zone.
  • Their most recent league outing was a 1-1 draw against Bologna, a match in which manager Alessio Dionisi admitted his team paid “dearly” for their many “mistakes.” Plenty of their recent errors have come in defence, with that draw ensuring Sassuolo have now gone 18 SA fixtures without keeping a clean sheet, while conceding at least twice in half of their ten league games this season.
  • Players to watch: Torino’s Duván Zapata has scored more goals against Sassuolo – nine in 16 H2Hs – than against any other opponent (W9, D2, L5). Looking to out-gun him might be Sassuolo forward Andrea Pinamonti, who has been on the losing side in just one of the last nine games in which has scored (W5, D3), while seven of those fixtures have contained 3+ goals.
  • Hot stat: Torino are the only team in SA yet to concede in the opening 30 minutes of their league games this season.
