Monza – Juventus Predictions and Preview

  • Turn the clock back to January and Monza won 2-0 against Juventus to become just the second side to triumph in both their first two Serie A (SA) games against the Old Lady. Extending that run may be a fairytale prospect though, considering the hosts’ recent 11-match league sequence has produced just three victories (D6, L2), although that hasn’t seen them fall far too out of contention for the European places.
  • If they are to cause an upset, their defence could prove key, as their tally of 12 goals conceded this season is bettered by only three teams in the division, with no side managing to score more than once against Raffaele Palladino’s men in their last ten league games. That solidity is especially evident at Stadio Brianteo, as Monza have let in only three SA goals on their own patch this term, while they also remain one of only two SA teams yet to have lost a home league encounter in 2023/24 (W2, D4).
  • Juventus missed the chance to go top last weekend, drawing 1-1 in the Derby d’Italia against Inter Milan. That result halted their five-game winning streak, keeping them two points behind Inter, although a victory at Monza would temporarily lift them into top spot. The Old Lady can usually bank on their backline holding firm, having conceded just four goals in 12 league outings aside from their 4-2 defeat to Sassuolo in September.
  • That loss came on the road and unsurprisingly, Juventus have kept a clean sheet in each of their other five SA away games so far this campaign (W4, D1). At the other end of the pitch, they have usually struck reasonably early too, with six of the Turin outfit’s last nine goals on their travels arriving before half-time. First-half action could once again be their saviour, as the visitors can’t risk dropping points here with a clash against Napoli on the horizon.
  • Players to watch: Monza’s Danilo D’Ambrosio doesn’t have particularly happy memories of playing Juventus, having been sent off in his last personal SA H2H. Looking to trouble him and contribute to Juventus’ first-ever SA H2H victory could be Federico Chiesa, with his two goals against Monza coming in wins, albeit in the Coppa Italia.
  • Hot stat: There have been exactly two goals in eight of Monza’s last 12 home league matches.
