Crystal Palace – Bournemouth Predictions and Preview

  • It’s just as well Crystal Palace had such a good start to the season because their current form is seeing them dragged deeper into the bottom half of the Premier League (PL) table. The Eagles came from behind to draw 1-1 against West Ham at the weekend, but are now on a run of just one win in their last seven outings (D2, L4), leaving them anxiously looking over their shoulders.
  • Worryignly, the bulk of their good results have come on the road, with Roy Hodgson’s side only managing one victory in six outings on home soil (D2, L3). That could add trepidation to this Selhurst Park return, especially as doubts remain over the fitness of star man Eberechi Eze, but with Hodgson admitting he may be nearing a return to action, the Eagles could be boosted as they bid to improve on a dismal recent record in Wednesday-held PL games (W1, D7, L7).
  • Bournemouth will certainly be hoping he doesn’t play, and they make the journey north on the back of a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa. That result was described as “not good enough” by manager Andoni Iraola, who was disappointed as his side twice took the lead, but failed to hold on as Ollie Watkins bagged a last-gasp equaliser. And that result contributed to a record which has seen only Burnley average fewer points per game after scoring first following the end of the last PL round (1.17 PPG – W2, D1, L3).
  • Even so, the Cherries are unbeaten over three league fixtures (W2, D1) for the first time since October 2022 and have put some space between themselves and the bottom three. Supporters may not be too confident that their side can extend their good form in this fixture though, given Bournemouth have lost the last five PL H2Hs, including three successive 2-0 defeats.
  • Players to watch: Palace’s Odsonne Edouard has netted six goals in 13 league appearances this season, already one more than he managed in 35 PL appearances in 2022/23. Attempting to out-gun him will be Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke, who has seen six of his eight goals in all competitions this season serves as the game’s first or last.
  • Hot stat: No PL ground has seen fewer combined goals than Selhurst Park this season (P6, G14).
