Nîmes Olympique will look to break their eight-game winless streak (D4, L4) in Ligue 1 (L1) this term against a St Étienne side they haven’t played in the league since the 1992/93 season, but who struggle historically in this part of France.
After starting the season with two-straight wins, Nîmes are now amid their worst run since they went 17 games without victory during 2015. They haven’t scored in four L1 games and in 431 minutes of football, after scoring 12 in their first five matches, while their last two home games both ended 0-0.
This will be Nîmes second-straight Friday night game, and their third overall this season (D1, L1).
Two games without a win (D1, L1) has seen St Étienne slip out of the top four in L1. Both of their losses have come on the road this season (W1, D2, L2), but to the teams currently placed first and second in the table. Overall, and counting last season, St Étienne’s away form is pretty decent with six wins, four draws and just three losses since January.
St Étienne have a surprisingly poor record at Nîmes, winning just six times in 37 competitive games (D15, L16).
Players to watch: Antonin Bobichon provided the assist for Nîmes’ last league goal back on September 21 and is joint-top scorer for the club with two. Meanwhile Wahbi Khazri has five L1 goals this season for St Étienne, including two penalties.
Stat attack: Including last season (L2), six of Nîmes‘ last eight home games have seen either one side or no side score.
St Étienne have managed to score over 1.5 goals away from home just three times in their last 12 road trips.
Although dating back more than 25 years, nine of the last ten L1 H2H meetings here have seen under 2.5 goals, with the last three ending 1-1.
