Utrecht made history with their second-leg victory over Heracles last time out, becoming the first team under the current European play-off format to keep a clean sheet across both semi-final legs.
Boasting the joint-fourth strongest home defence in the regular season (0.94 conceded per match on average) Utrecht are unbeaten in eight matches here in all competitions (W4, D4). Interestingly, three of those draws were goalless, accounting for a quarter of all the goalless draws in the 2018/19 Eredivisie season.
Vitesse are in the final after overcoming a 2-1 deficit to qualify for a second successive final. Unlike Utrecht, they often produce entertainment, and each of their last 12 Eredivisie away games have produced over 2.5 total goals. Further to the potential ‘entertainment’ stakes, visiting coach Leonid Slutsky is unbeaten in his two meetings with Utrecht (W1, D1).
That said, Vitesse picked up less than a third of their points total away from home during the regular season (32.08%). Tellingly, they conceded the opener in just over half of their away league matches (52.94%), but did manage to equalise on half of the 16 away matches in which they went behind.
Players to watch: Utrecht’s Simon Gustafson scored a penalty in both legs of his side’s play-off semi-final.
After an injury-plagued campaign, Vitesse star Tim Matavž contributed two first-half goals in his team’s victory over Groningen last time out.
Stat attack: Utrecht conceded just four first-half goals in 17 regular season home games, accounting for only 25% of their total conceded home goals.
Leonid Slutsky is winless in eight of his nine managerial meetings with Utrecht boss Dick Advocaat (W1, D4, L4).
Utrecht have won after a level half-time score in each of their last three home matches.
