In a repeat of the 2017 Gold Cup final, Jamaica take on the USA in this semi-final clash following their 1-0 victory over Panama – a result that made it three games in a row where the ‘Reggae Boyz’ have witnessed under 2.5 match goals (W1, D2).
With Jamaica’s two Gold Cup victories so far arriving after they scored the opener, as well as their last 13 wins across all competitions (inc. friendlies), they will be keen to strike first here.
However, only three of their previous ten Gold Cup matches have produced over 2.5 goals, giving this fixture the feeling of a potentially low-scoring affair – that’s further strengthened by the fact not one of the last ten H2Hs have involved more than three goals.
Although the USA’s tight 1-0 victory over Curaçao in the quarter-finals probably didn’t impress their fans, that win did make it four consecutive victories ‘to nil’ in this tournament, with the Americans leading 1-0 at half-time in three of those games.
In fact, the defending Gold Cup champions have now seen their last 11 victories (in all competitions, inc. friendlies) come with a clean sheet, although three of their last four H2Hs in this tournament versus Jamaica have seen both teams score (W4).
Players to watch: Darren Mattocks came off the bench to score Jamaica’s winner against Panama – he’s been his nation’s last goalscorer in four of the previous five internationals he’s netted in.
Meanwhile, USA tournament top scorer Gyasi Zardes has scored all three of his goals after half-time.
Stat attack: Both teams have scored in only three of Jamaica’s last ten fixtures.
Both teams have scored in just one of the USA’s last 12 fixtures.
Three of the USA’s four Gold Cup games have seen two or fewer yellow cards.
