Match Preview

Runaway Premier League (PL) leaders Manchester City welcome West Brom (WBA) to the Etihad Stadium for this midweek round of the PL. After Liverpool ended Pep Guardiola’s unbeaten PL run, they will be eager to bounce back, and historically, the Baggies offer the perfect opportunity.
The Citizens dominate the head to head form between these two teams. City have won the last 13 meetings, and have scored 3+ goals on nine of these occasions!
A West Brom side who are struggling to find the net all season (19 goals in 24 games) will have a rough time against one of the tightest defences in the league (18 conceded). Only Man United and Chelsea (both 16) have conceded less than City.
Going into this match, the visitors will have three days of rest from the weekend’s FA Cup ties, whereas City have had to prepare in only two. City boss Guardiola has said a tight schedule is “killing the players”.
West Brom are likely to be missing a few key players after their 3-2 FA Cup win over Liverpool – could Man City take advantage of this and rout a tired and depleted WBA? Or could West Brom carry their weekend cup-form into this much-anticipated fixture?
Players to watch: City striker Sergio Aguero fired a warning shot (or three!) with a brilliant hat-trick in the previous PL round against Newcastle.
If they are going to get anything from this match, Baggies’ forward Jay Rodriguez will have to extend his fine goalscoring form. He’s netted four in his last four matches, including a double that dumped Liverpool out of the FA Cup!
Stat attack: 50% of City’s games have seen more than 3.5 goals (25% for the Baggies). In terms of scoring goals, Man City have been outstanding. At home, they’ve produced a massive 42 goals in 12 games (3.5 on average).
Only beaten by West Ham, West Brom have collected 47 yellow cards this season (1.95 cards per match).
