We kick off the week’s Championship action with a Yorkshire derby that is set to be a classic relegation six pointer! These two sides head into this fixture on the back of a win, and face off outside the bottom three.
Despite getting one over their county rivals Sheffield United at the weekend, Hull’s form in general has been woeful of late. They are, however, surprisingly hard to break down at home, the Tigers are unbeaten here in six league games (W2, D4).
New Barnsley boss Jose Morais couldn’t be happier with his side at the moment, despite their precarious league position. After beating Birmingham 2-0 at the weekend, he was full of confidence, saying: “I don’t think about relegation, we will win enough games.”
These two sides have not met here in the league since the 2012/’13 season. Barnsley have lost five of the last seven meetings at the KCOM, winning the other two.
Leading at half-time could be important here. Together the sides have cobbled together just four points from a possible 72 after being behind at the break.
Players to watch: Nouha Dicko (HUL) has not always been the first name on the team sheet this term. When he does score, however, it is important. His last two goals have been winning ones, and Hull have also not lost any game this season when he has found the net.
Oli McBurnie (BAR) has made an immediate impact since joining in January, scoring three goals from his first four Championship games!
Stat attack: This fixture is not renowned for goals, five of the last six meetings in all competitions have produced under 2.5 goals. Four of the last six have produced wins to nil for either side.
Curiously, with 40 wins apiece in the all-time series (and 22 draws), neither team has an outright historical advantage ahead of kickoff.
