Match Preview

Huddersfield take on Chelsea this weekend as Kirklees Stadium gears up for the new Premier League (PL) campaign. The home side are embarking on only their second season in the PL, while Chelsea under new manager Maurizio Sarri will hope to improve on last season’s disappointing fifth place.
Huddersfield have looked good to go in the pre-season, with three wins on the bounce against strong competition (Lyon, Bologna, RB Leipzig). Terence Kongolo has been permanently signed from Monaco following his loan spell last season, in a bid to shore up a leaky defence that conceded 58 goals (1.53 on average) in 2017/18.
With an otherwise quiet summer, question marks remain around the home side who finished last season with just one win in ten (W1, D4, L5), finding the net a measly three times.
The 2017/18 season saw a recent ‘trend’ from Chelsea, as disappointment followed a previous title win. Their PL win in 2015 was followed with tenth place in 2016, and fifth place last season was a far drop from being champions in 2017.
Despite mixed results in pre-season, there is an air of optimism surrounding the London team after Sarri brought midfield stalwart Jorginho with him from Napoli.
Players to watch: Steve Mounié scored seven PL goals for Huddersfield last season, and has found the net in three of the last four pre-season matches.
Álvaro Morata ultimately had a disappointing first season for Chelsea, but started that season with six goals in the first six matches.
Stat attack: Huddersfield’s last five league home matches ended with under 2.5 goals.
In 15 of the 21 matches Chelsea won last season, they were ahead at half-time.
Chelsea accrued just 42 yellow cards last season (1.1 on average per game), the fewest in the league.
