Match Preview

Poland travel to Italy for this UEFA Nations League clash, with the visitors attempting to beat their hosts for the first time ever on Italian soil.
Italy, one of the great footballing nations, is still reeling from failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup (WC), the first time in fifty years they missed out. Under new boss Roberto Mancini – who’s picked a youthful squad and brought in new faces for this game – there’s renewed hope that the Italians can regain some former glory.
This will be Mancini’s first competitive match in charge, after being in the dugout for three friendlies (W1, D1, L1). He inherits a national team solid at home, and unbeaten in their last nine matches in Italy (W4, D5).
Their opponents made it to the WC but crashed out after three games, finishing bottom of one of the weaker groups (W1, L2). This will be former Poland captain Jerzy Brzęczek’s first game in charge of the national side, and he will rely on several Italian-based Polish players for inside-info on the opposition.
Poland are strong away from home, losing just twice in their last ten games on the road (W5, D3, L2). However in five previous meetings in Italy, they’ve never won a game (D2, L3) and in 14 previous H2Hs in total, they’ve managed to win just three (W3, D6, L5).
Players to watch: Fiorentina midfielder Marco Benassi is Italy’s in-form player, with three goals in two games for his club.
Poland’s highest-ever scorer, Robert Lewandowski, will be looking to get over a disappointing WC with a goal here.
Stat attack: Italy have been drawing 0-0 at half-time in six of their last ten matches.
Only one team has scored in ten of the 14 H2Hs between these two sides.
Poland have failed to score in just two of their last ten away outings.
