Though set to be the aggressors in what looks like a mismatch on paper, Ajax saw their unbeaten run of 30 home matches (W26, D4 – in all competitions) ended in midweek by reigning European champions Real Madrid. Regardless, Ajax are one of just two Eredivisie sides (along with PSV) that remain unbeaten at home this Eredivisie season (W8, D2).
Furthermore, the Amsterdammers have scored more than any other side from ten home league outings, netting 4.2 goals per match on average. With just 0.6 goals conceded per home match, they also boast the second-best defence in the home league table.
By contrast, Breda are one of just two Eredivisie sides yet to register a win on the road (D2, L8). Furthermore, Breda don’t generally wear the ‘underdog’ tag well, and have lost – while conceding two or more – in four of their last five away matches in which they were the outsider.
Compounding matters, visiting manager Mitchell van der Gaag is winless in all five of his prior H2Hs with Ajax (D1, L4), while losing all five of his prior encounters with opposing manager Erik ten Hag.
Players to watchDušan Tadić has been involved in 34 goals in 35 matches for Ajax this season (22 goals, 12 assists) – at least ten more than any of his team-mates.
Mikhail Rosheuvel was involved in both goals the last time Breda found the net away from home in early December 2018 (one goal, one assist).
Stat attack: Ajax have scored at least four goals in each of their last four home Eredivisie matches.
Breda have had a man sent off in each of their last two visits to this venue.
Ajax have been winning at both half-time and full-time in eight of their last nine Eredivisie home matches, with seven of those matches yielding a clean sheet.
