Ousted from the Champions League, and now equal on points with Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga after a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of relegation-candidates Augsburg last week, it’s been a week to forget for Borussia Dortmund.
With just one win in their last five Bundesliga matches (W1, D3, L1), Dortmund have their league-high tally of 58 goals to thank for the fact they remain hanging on in first place. However, they are yet to lose at home this Bundesliga campaign (W10, D2), netting an impressive average of 3.33 goals per match – the league average is 1.69.
Getting the opener, as Dortmund have in nine home games so far, would go some way in getting the hosts back on track, and should be possible against a Stuttgart side that have conceded the opener in ten of their 12 top-flight away fixtures.
Four points from their last two games has given 16th-placed Stuttgart some momentum as they attempt to climb out of the drop zone, although they remain winless in six straight Bundesliga away games (D1, L5).
It’s the visitors’ second-half capitulation that has let them down on the road, with a league-high five half-time away draws turning into full-time losses (D/L). Furthermore, they’ve conceded just over a third (35.71%) of their away league goals after the 75th minute.
Players to watch: Paco Alcácer (DOR) was back on the scoresheet last weekend after a seven-game Bundesliga goal drought. He has 13 league goals – eleven from the bench.
January signing Steven Zuber (STU) has found his feet recently, scoring in his last three Bundesliga games.
Stat attack: None of Dortmund’s Bundesliga home matches have been goalless at half-time.
Both teams have scored in 83.33% of Dortmund’s top-flight home games.
Seven of Stuttgart’s nine Bundesliga away defeats have been ‘to nil’.
