Cardiff – Ipswich Predictions and Preview
- Cardiff City look to be gearing up for a late charge towards the play-off places after their 1-0 victory over Huddersfield last time out stretched their winning streak to three matches. That lifted Erol Bulut’s men to tenth place with ten games to go, and with all but one of the teams above them dropping points over those last three matches, closing the seven-point gap to the play-off spots doesn’t seem beyond reach.
- The Bluebirds will now test themselves against Ipswich Town, who are a team above them in red-hot form. The hosts will be aiming to avoid being on the wrong end of a league H2H double after losing the reverse fixture 3-2 and will hope the home support could again be key, as Cardiff have won the last four home league H2Hs.
- That run could be under threat given the mood Ipswich have been in lately, with their six-game winning streak firmly reigniting their own once-faltering title challenge. The Tractor Boys have now closed the gap to league-leading Leicester City to just three points, and continuing their fine form will almost certainly result in them either harvesting a Championship title, or automatic promotion at the very least.
- Manager Kieran McKenna hasn’t been without some headaches though, such as his team keeping just two clean sheets in their last 12 games. Luckily they’ve been so free-scoring at the other end, especially on the road where they’ve scored 2+ goals in each of their last four games (W3, L1). They will now aim to make it five in a row on their league travels for the first time since August 1979 when the late Bobby Robson was in charge.
- Players to watch: Cardiff’s Karlan Grant usually makes his goals count, seeing as he’s unbeaten in his last 20 games when scoring (W14, D6). As for Ipswich’s Conor Chaplin, settling into the game quickly seems to matter most, with eight of his last ten goals all coming before half-time.
