Match Preview

PSG are way ahead of the rest this season and may as well be in a league of their own. But second place and promotion to the Champions League Group Stage is all to play still for with Lyon, Marseille and Monaco looking like the top contenders. Out of the three, Marseille currently have the worst form, but they are still equal on points with Lyon and Monaco are only one point ahead.
Strasbourg have lost their last two games, but before that they were unbeaten in six. They have a multitude of injuries, including their first choice keeper, Bingourou Kamara. Fan’s will be hoping the remaining players can string some wins together, otherwise the three points between them and the first relegation spot may be on the cards.
Marseille coach Rudi Garcia doesn’t seem interested in making transfers at the moment, but then we all know things can change. Garcia recently stated: “I do not know if we will be very active on this transfer window. We have a successful team, which is progressing. We just have to be careful because we have played a lot of games, without suffering too many injuries”.
Home and away, Marseille have the third best home record in L1. They have only lost one game this season and are unbeaten in their last ten (in all competitions). In the ten games they have scored 20 goals – an average of two goals per game. Strasbourg however, have failed to find any decent form away from home. Their last ten games have produced 28 goals – an average of 2.8 goals per game.
Players to watch: 24-year-old midfielder Florian Thauvin has scored nine goals and eight assists in 20 games so far this season. He’s been quiet on the scoring front recently but did manage to score in their last match away to Rennes.
Strasbourg managed to shock PSG at home (2-1), which was the Paris giants only loss this season and 25-year-old Stephane Bahoken scored the winning goal to send the home fans wild. With just three goals scored this season (L1) – perhaps he relishes the bigger challenges?
Stat attack: In round nine Marseille travelled to Strasbourg and a six goal thriller was witnessed which finished in an exciting 3-3 draw. Their history of 32 matches spans back to 1984 and Marseille seem to have the edge over their opponents with a record of: W14, D10, L8. Ninety goals have been seen in these fixtures – an average of 2.8 goals per game.
