Match Preview

Denmark and Chile both enter this match after decent wins, and will meet this Tuesday with different objectives in mind. While Denmark continue to prepare for the upcoming World Cup (WC), Chile are trying to establish a new identity under head coach Reinaldo Rueda, who recently replaced Juan Antonio Pizzi after failing to qualify for Russia 2018.
Chile have started their ‘new process’ with some solid performances so far. They recently travelled to Stockholm and beat Sweden 2-1 thanks to a late goal by Marcos Bolados. The Chilean side looked lively and played with intensity which should see them come into this match with confidence.
Denmark meanwhile, recently defeated surprise-package Panama 1-0. Facing Panama and Chile should be a good measure for a Danish side that will play against Peru, France and Australia in Group C of the WC this summer. Having chosen Panama and Chile as opponents, they will gain some invaluable insight into the Latin American style of play in preparation for their WC match against Peru.
However, the Danes have not had very good results of late. Prior to the win against Panama, they had losses against Sweden (0-1) and Jordan (2-3) earlier this year. Chile will represent their toughest test to date.
Players to watch: What else can we say about Christian Eriksen? The Tottenham star is Denmark’s top player, and his influence on the team’s attacking play is huge. He netted a hat-trick in the WC qualifying playoffs, and currently has 21 goals in 76 caps with the national team.
Alexis Sanchez should represent Chile’s biggest attacking threat. The Manchester United star is Chile’s most-capped player with 120 appearances for La Roja, and is also the country’s all-time leading scorer with 39 goals.
Stat attack: Chile and Denmark have faced each other just once before. It happened in 2009 and Chile won 2-1 thanks to goals by Sanchez and Esteban Paredes. Laase Schone scored for Denmark.
Denmark have a record of: W2 D2 L2, in their past six games in all competitions. Meanwhile, Chile have just two wins and four losses over that same span.
Chile are ranked tenth in the FIFA Rankings with 1,161 points, while Denmark sit in 12th place with 1,108. Will the ranking prove accurate?
